I have been a ceremonial magician for 48 years (plus or minus a year or two). But I didn't start working with the Enochian system, of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelly, until around 1978 or so. Working with it has been a fascinating journey, especially these last 15 years. Before 2003, all I had was the HOGD (Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn) material as published by the late Dr. Israel Regardie and others, and the facsimile editions of A True and Faithful Relation of What Passed for Many Years Between Dr. John Dee and Some Spirits by Meric Casaubon, as source material for my experiments.
Early in 2003 I was granted access to the Sloane documents, Dr. Dee's magical diaries from the British Library, which opened up a whole new branch of study within the system. I was also granted access to the Alnwick and Cotton documents, plus the diaries of Elias Ashmole containing his fair copies of Dee's diaries. Since that time I have been able to piece together some of the missing sections that were unfortunately destroyed prior to Ashmole's recovery of the diaries on August 20, 1672.
Now, I should probably tell you that I am not a scholar, I am a magician. I do not repeat things just because someone says it's true. I might try something someone said but if it doesn't work, it goes in the garbage. The things I will write about here are what I have tried and found to be workable. Also, I will not be referring to any modern writers on these subjects. No HOGD, no Aleister Crowley, no Aurum Solis, and certainly no Anton LaVey. I will be using nothing but Dee's diaries and the books that are known to be on his bookshelves as source materials.
So, walk with me a while and we will discuss many things concerning our magical universe.
